i’m sure they’ve picked up on it, because whether you’ve shared your art or not, people pick up on the poet’s gene.
it resides in the hopeful creatives, the complex romantics, the people who move just a little differently throughout the world.
maybe your gene is dormant, and you have never tried writing before – but the poet’s gene isn’t actually about writing poetry.
it’s about the way your answer is remembered from a panel interview, when you were at your worst.
you told them you identify with a butterfly, because they’re harmonious, and you think your answer means nothing.
until it’s brought up with fierce awe 2 years later by the president of the organization
because they saw the poet’s gene sparking to life
before you were even close to recognizing it within yourself.
